The Running of the SheepThe Riverland has its own version of Running with the Bulls. The annual Running with the Sheep event is held in Barmera on Saturday the 9th June. Over 300 sheep run down the main street of the town to the oval at the end. The event is a “welcoming” ceremony to the Barmera Sheep Dog Trials that attracts competitors from all over Australia.
The Sheep Dog Trials
The Sheep Dog Trials is held on the 9th, 10th and 11th June at Barmera Oval. The trials showcases the bond and trust that exists between the handler and their dog as they partake in different challenges to test the dogs skills.
South Australian Country Music Festival
You can combine your love of music and sheep dog trailing the South Australian Country Music festival also be held in Barmera on the June long weekend.
The 2018 “40th Annual” South Australian Country Music Festival will be held from the 1st June to the 11th June.
Known as the “Friendly Festival” it also boasts a Country Music Hall of Fame and a Hands of Fame Park. The SA Country Music Festival has for the past 40 years remained the biggest and most prestigious of its kind in the state.
